Agreement signed between Export Inspection Council of India and the US health regulator to facilitate sharing of information relating to import alerts

Export Inspection Council of India (EIC) and the US health regulator have signed an agreement in order to facilitate the sharing of information with respect to import alerts. The EIC, under the commerce ministry, was set to ensure proper development of export trade of India through quality control and inspection.

The issuance of warning letters and import alerts for domestic manufacturing facilities had increased significantly over the past couple of years and USFDA's focus has increased on compliance of guidelines of cGMP (current good manufacturing practice) by pharmaceutical companies.

The agreement will help EIC to conduct quick assessment in required time frame to support the Indian exporter and is also of greater significance from part of USFDA which is posing challenges for the Indian pharmaceutical companies.
