API production of Merck at Puerto Rico ended

Pharmaceutical company, Merck has announced that the company would be ending the production of API at one of its important manufacturing plants in Puerto Rico. This plant, which is in Barceloneta, has been one of the major pharmaceutical center. The closure of this plant would definitely be a major loss to this center.

The company plans for global reorganization and as a part of it, the production at this plant would be closed in 2014. Following this closure, the company plans that the production of the formulation and packaging needs that were managed by this plant would further carried out by a third party.

While this is being planned, the company also plans to invest into Law Piedras plant. This plant is in charge of development and launching of new drugs.
