Addendum 2015 to Indian Pharmacopoeia-2014 published


Recently Addendum 2015 to Indian Pharmacopoeia 2014 was released on 28 Nov 2014 by Sh. Lov Verma, Secretary Health & Family Welfare and Chairman, India Pharmacopoeia Commission in the presence of senior officers of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Scientific Staff of IP Commission., Ghaziabad.

The Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) is published in fulfillment of the requirements of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the rules underlying it. It prescribes the standards for drugs produced and/or marketed in India and thus contributes in the control and assurance of the quality of the medicines. The standards of this pharmacopoeia are authoritative and legally enforceable. It intends to help in the licensing of manufacturing, inspection and distribution of medicines.

IP and its addendum are published to fulfill the mission of the IPC for improving the health of the people by ensuring the three principle parameters-quality, safety and efficacy of the medicines. The inputs are received from various regulatory bodies, industrial houses, academic institutions, national laboratories, individual scientists and others and then IP is published which is one of the major requirement of the commission. IP is published at regular and shorter intervals.

The contents of new monographs, revised appendices and other informations were publicized on the website of the IPC. The comments were obtained. The feedback and inputs were reviewed by the expert committee keeping in mind the feasibility and practicability of the standards and methods revised and the principles of openness, fairness and justice.

The Addendum 2015 have amended as well as added new materials to the Indian Pharmacopoeia 2014. The General Notices, Monographs, Appendices and other contents of the Indian Pharmacopoeia that are amended by this Addendum supersede the original matter.The General Notices and Appendices included in the Indian Pharmacopoeia 2014 apply to the contents of this Addendum as well unless specifically stated otherwise.

Addendum 2015 to IP 2014 will be effective from 31st March 2015.

  • Total 82 new monographs have been added which includes
  • 57 new monographs of API and Dosage Form
  • 13 new herbal monographs
  • 2 New Human Vaccines Monographs
  • 10 Radiopharmaceutical Monographs
  • Total 35 monographs have been revised which includes
  • 6 revised monographs
  • 29 revised tests
  • 20 new Spectras have been added
