Commissioners of Food Safety of all states and union territories and all Central licensing authorities received a letter from the FSSAI emphasizing on discouraging the use of staple pins on food packets.
Many food business operators (FBOs) are using this technique to seal plastic and paper bags instead of sealing them with a thermal unit or cello-adhesive tapes. This is the reason why FSSAI took the step of discouraging this practice.
The letter by FSSAI wants the authorities to create awareness among businesses, especially unorganized FBOs and consumers, about the harmful effects of the metal pins used for stapling on plastic and paper bags and discourage its use.
Though, this is not the guidance, but if anyone is found guilty, strict action will be taken by the FSSAI against them.
The FSSAI requested all the concerned authorities to use a systemic campaign for generating awareness amongst all related parties to discourage the use of stapling pins for packaging of processed and unprocessed food.
