Elekta, a precision radiation medicine solution provider, has received regulatory clearance from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission for clinical use of its Unity magnetic resonance radiation therapy (MRRT) system.
The device is a MR-linac intended to deliver personalized radiation therapy. It has been designed to adjust dosage depending on daily changes in the tumor’s shape, size, position and surrounding healthy anatomy.
The system has a real-time adaptive radiotherapy software that allows accurate dose delivery with real-time tumour visualization.
The device, Unity, already have the USFDA clearance and European CE-Mark. The Unity system features a 1.5T MRI scanner and a 7MV linear accelerator for precision beam delivery. The 1.5T MRI gives diagnostic images that helps in the assessment of tumour response. The device also facilitates management of hard-to-treat cancers and improves treatment options.
Elekta first unveiled this system at 36th European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) meeting in Vienna, Austria in 2017.
The company also provides products and solutions for stereotactic radiosurgery, oncology informatics, brachytherapy, neurosurgery and particle therapy.
