FSSAI has ordered all the State Food Safety Commissioners to investigate and verify the reports of false claims made by the food business operators (FBOs) covered under the food safety regulations for health supplements, nutraceuticals, foods for dietary use, foods for medical purposes, novel foods and functional foods.
The state food safety departments are also directed to submit a compliance report regarding the same by July 15, 2019.
The surveillance was to be carried out by the food safety commissioners in their respective area of jurisdictions and the action report on the same should be submitted to the office of Dr Shobhit Jain, executive director, compliance division, FSSAI by July 15, 2019.
In January as well, after receiving the reports that some of the FBOs were selling nutraceutical and health supplement without following the labelling regulations, FSSAI ordered the authorized officers to conduct a probe to curb the sale of those misbranded nutraceuticals which were sold with wrong labels in the market.
