Karnataka drugs control department recovered 28 not-of-standard quality drugs from various pharmacy trade outlets during a surprise inspection. The companies which have manufactured these drugs are Beloobayir Biotech in Karnataka, JP Drugs at Haridwar, Lifevision Healthcare in Himachal Pradesh, AD Life Sciences in Hyderabad, Raffles Pharma in Chitoor district in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Limited, Bengaluru ASA Biotech at Solan in Himachal Pradesh, Roseate Medicare in Himachal Pradesh, Relief Biotech at Roorkee, HLL Lifescare in Belgaum district, Mars Medisoap, Ahmedabad, Madav Biotech in Solan district in Himachal Pradesh, MG Pharmaceuticals in Solan, Lerio Pharmaceuticals in Haridwar, Astan Healthcare in Himachal Pradesh, Lakem Labs in Gujarat, Uniplus Biotech, Systochem Labs in Roop Nagar in Loni, Essel Pharma in Himachal Pradesh, Konis Pharmaceuticals, Skymap Pharma in Roorkee, Norris Medicines in Gujarat, Unison Pharma in Baddi and Preet Pharma in Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

The drugs found to be not of standard quality are Feziol tablets, Levin-5 which is a combination of Levocetirizine Dihydrocloride, RRAZ-DSR a rabeprazole sodium and domperidon capsules, Amoxicillin and Dicloxacillin capsules sold under the brand name Moxilium tablets, Throxine tablets, Pant D which contains Pantoprazole and Domperidone, Pantus –D, Glysoft soap, Telmisat -80, Omespan capsules, etc. If the patients used these drugs they would not have got the required results. Even if the drugs were manufactured by the companies strictly following good manufacturing practices, they were not transported in the right cold chain transport systems or were not refrigerated at the chemist outlets.

Karnataka Drugs Controller told that the available stocks of the drugs which were found to be not of standard quality will be recalled from the supply chain and suitable action will be taken as per the Drugs and Cosmetic Rules. The state drugs control department has been known for its regular and surprise inspections carried out every monthto pick random samples and to test its content.
