Wideblue, a product design, development and manufacturing consultancy has developed a device for Softcell Medical which is used to measure and display the pH of a patient’s tissue during surgery in real-time.
The new pH monitoring device comprises of a pH Probe and pH Monitor. This device helps in the assessment of patients who have either sustained injuries or have disease processes that make them prone to ischaemia or localized tissue death. The pH of the tissue is assessed by pH Probe which helps in prevention from the development of compartment syndrome or localized tissue death. The device should only be used as a guide by the clinician along with his or her clinical judgement to make decisions regarding patient’s health care.
The pH monitoring device works on the principle, that if the blood supply is limited to parts of the body, the organs/tissue become slightly acidic. The treatment of the patient is guided by the level of acid build up. The device helps the surgeon by measuring and displaying the pH before, during and after the operation.
