The health department launched the statewide vaccination drive for Rota virus from Phulwari Sharif primary health care (PHC).
The officials said that the new Rota virus vaccine will be a part of routine immunization drive conducted by the department for prevention of diseases like Polio.
The step was taken in a program organized by Bihar State Health Society (BSHS) in association with UNICEF (Bihar). The new vaccine will help in reducing infant mortality rate in Bihar. In the program, an awareness chariot on dengue and chikungunya was also given a green light.
The government set a target of 90% immunization with the help of auxiliary nurse midwives, ASHA workers, self-help groups and paramedical staff at PHCs. The main reason for releasing the Rota virus vaccine is to save large number of children from high fever, stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhoea caused due to Rota virus.
414 crore doses of the vaccine have already been administration across 15 states to children. Proper and timely medication is very essential in case of Rota virus infection as it can cause dehydration and even death.
