Swipha obtains WHO GMP certification

Swiss Pharma Nigeria Limited (Swipha) has announced its WHO GMP certification. Swipha is the first company in West Africa to receive World Health Organisation (WHO) Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certificate. The GMP certificate has been granted after an extensive review and audit of the establishment’s manufacturing and laboratory facilities by WHO.

Swiss Pharma Nigeria Limited (Swipha) manufactures, markets, and distributes pharmaceutical products that meet international standards. The chairman of Swipha described the certification as a universal recognition of the company’s manufacturing facilities and quality procedures and practices, which will undoubtedly open tremendous opportunities for expansion of its product portfolio across the globe. He also stated that the GMP approval would pave way for quality conscious international donor agencies and governments to procure drugs intended for use in Nigeria and Africa from a Nigerian pharmaceutical company.

Swipha was selected as one of the eight companies short-listed for the exercise to ascertain the level of compliance to the WHO cGMP standards. The company’s spokesperson stated that thisheralded series of advisory audits by NAFDAC to further enhance compliance to WHO cGMP standards and preparedness for the final WHO cGMP Inspection, which took place in April 2013. Subsequent to further successful verification exercises, WHO declared Swipha’s manufacturing and laboratory facility as being compliant to the WHO cGMP.
